Connect and Wonder
What do I already know and what do I need to know?
In this stage we become curious.
The first step is to choose one of the above Wonders of the World
and think about all the things you might already know about it.
If you don't know about these places become curious... look at pictures or videos of these places... (see the link below)
Create a mind map or list the things you know about it. See my example below for Uluru

Then we need to think about what we need to know.
Sometimes this involves creating questions.

Discover and Learn
Where can I find the information?
The next step in the inquiry process is to find information.
It can be from books / printed information, digital forms like websites and videos, or can be from knowledgeable humans!
*** This can be a tricky step for students to navigate the internet***
We often talk about keywords when searching for information online.
so think about 1 of the questions you have and the keywords in it.
e.g. what is a sacred site?
keywords would be: Uluru sacred site for kids
We always encourage the students to add the words "for kids" to their google search to narrow down the website selection to sites aimed at kids.
We encourage students to identify the web address and determine the domain extension
com. The com in dot-com is short for commercial. ...
. edu. ... educational
. gov. ... government
. org. ... organisation
Knowing and understanding this is important for students especially in years 5 & 6 to understand the authors purpose and any bias that may be present.

What information is important?
How do I record and organise my information?
Once we have found a website we need to read the information.
We use our non fiction features knowledge to identify the parts of the web page we need to read.
Browse the sub headings on the page first.
Look at the pictures and read the captions that go with the picture.
Decide if this is the sort of information that may help you to answer your question.
If it is then read the information and identify the main idea and take some notes.
Use the note taking document below to help organise your information.
If you find it is not the information you require, go back to your search results and try a different website.
If you still have difficulty locating information try to alter your keywords search.
