Week 1 – Community
Learning Intention:
Students should:
Understand that a community is a group of diverse people living in the same area,
who have an interest in each other and what happens in the community.
Communicate how the school is a community
Watch the video below
Discuss the following questions:
What are communities?
What do all communities have in common (what is the same)?
How are people important in a community?
Build a community out of lego.
Look at the school’s website and in particular the pictures.
Discuss:
Who makes up our school community?
Why is our school community special?
Why our school community different to other school communities?
What are you missing about your school community?
Activities:
Complete a picture collage of your favourite pictures from the school website
Draw your favourite part of the school community
Create an illustration of the school community including the aspects that represent the sounds,
how it looks and what it feels like reflected on the faces of the community members.
Complete the sentence ‘I love my school community because …..’
Write a prayer for your school community, that they will stay together even though they are apart at this time.
(You may like to use Sketch a Prayer strategy, where you sketch a picture as your prayer.
Explain your picture to your carer)
Email you prayers and pictures to your teacher so they can share these with the school community
